Workshops
The first of the Caine Prize writers' workshops took place in Monkey Valley, just outside Cape Town in early March
2003, and was followed a year later by the second. The following 3 years
saw workshops held in Crater Lake, Kenya.
The
workshop consists of 12 young writers who convene to discuss work in progress and to learn from
their animateurs Veronique Tadjo and Peter Merington, to work on new and
existing story ideas, and to benefit from working with other African writers.

The Caine Prize workshops are sponsored by the Ford Foundation and by the
Ernest Oppenheimer Memorial Trust. Further workshops are planned elsewhere
in Africa in the coming years.
The stories written at the workshop are published by
Jacana, alongside the Prize's shortlisted stories. Books are available
from the Africa Centre in London's Covent Garden, or on their website www.africabookcentre.com.
