Beyond the award

Our programmes

We nurture writers year-round through hands-on workshops, editorial mentoring and partnerships across the literary ecosystem.

In person

The Caine Prize Writers' Workshop

Each year we bring together a group of writers for an intensive residential workshop. Over two weeks, participants write, read and critique new short stories, guided by established authors and editors — many of the resulting stories go on to be published in our anthology.

Remote

Online Editorial Programme

Our online editorial programme pairs emerging writers with experienced editors for focused, one-to-one development of their work. It removes geographic barriers, reaching writers across the continent and the diaspora wherever they are based.

Partnerships

We work with publishers, literary festivals, universities and cultural institutions to widen the reach of African writing — co-hosting events, supporting publication and building lasting routes to readership for our writers.
